Widespread warnings as potent snowstorm closes in on Quebec
Alerts in Effect
Winter Storm WarningIssued at 15:40 Wednesday 26 February 2020
Hazardous winter conditions are expected.
A major low pressure system will affect Southwestern and Central Quebec overnight tonight and Thursday.
This system will bring heavy snow to these regions, with more than 25 to 45 cm over some areas.
In addition, the strong winds combined with the snow will give near zero visibilities in blowing snow, especially over areas near the St Lawrence river. Highway closures are possible especially east of Quebec.
The worst conditions are expected over Southwestern Quebec Thursday morning and over Central Quebec near midday.
Rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.
Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.
