Snow Squall Watch

Issued at 15:36 Sunday 28 February 2021

Snow squalls possible on Monday.

Locally heavy snow squalls are forecast to develop early Monday with the arrival of an unseasonably cold airmass. Locally heavy snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm will be possible by the time the snow squalls weaken Monday evening.

Strong northwesterly winds will also accompany the snow squalls, resulting in reduced visibilities at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.

Motorists should prepare for adverse winter driving conditions and adjust their travel plans accordingly.

###

Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

Snow squall watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the formation of bands of snow that could produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities.
