Tornado warning issued as severe thunderstorms fire up in Ontario

Severe Thunderstorm WarningIssued at 16:49 Friday 23 October 2020
Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are moving northeastward through or toward portions of the region.
In addition, a more organized line of severe thunderstorms is expected to move across the region from the west late this afternoon.
Damaging wind gusts, brief torrential downpours, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, and large hail will also be associated with some of these storms.
There also is the risk for a tornado.
Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes.
Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms which may produce tornadoes.
This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation.
Tornado watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce tornadoes.
