Summary

Conditions are favourable for severe thunderstorms to develop this afternoon into this evening.

The main threats are strong damaging winds up to 100 km/h and torrential downpours.

Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

Heat Warning

Summary

A heat event is expected from today into Tuesday.

Maximum temperatures today are expected to reach between 28 and 30 degrees Celsius with Humidex values of 36.

Minimum overnight temperatures will be between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius.

A slightly cooler and less humid airmass will arrive in the area late on Tuesday.

Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and cause the Air Quality Health Index to approach the high risk category.
