Special Weather Statement

Issued at 05:48 Thursday 27 February 2020
Summary

Snow mixed with ice pellets as well as strong easterly winds are expected tonight.

Total snowfall: 5 to 15 cm and possibly more.

Maximum wind gusts: easterly 60 to 100 km/h with Les Suetes wind gusts up to 170 km/h forecast over western Cape Breton Island.

Locations: northern mainland Nova Scotia and western Cape Breton.

Time span: this afternoon until early Friday morning.

Remarks: Snow and ice pellets will develop over northeastern Nova Scotia this afternoon and over Cape Breton this evening. Precipitation should end or taper to flurries by Friday morning. Strong easterly winds will also develop this afternoon and evening, potentially giving reduced visibilities in blowing snow in some locations.

The timing of the snow and wind could cause poor travel conditions late this afternoon and this evening.

There is a Les Suetes wind warning in effect.
