Conditions are favourable for the development of snow squalls, with intense snowfall rates, strong winds and blowing snow.
Total snowfall: locally 10 cm or more in snow squalls.
Maximum wind gusts: southwesterly 80 km/h.
Locations: Burin Peninsula and southern Avalon Peninsula.
Time span: this morning and this afternoon.
Remarks: Flurries will become more frequent this morning, with areas of snow squall activity developing as cold southwesterly winds strengthen.
Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero.
Snow squall watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the formation of bands of snow that could produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities.
