Heat wave today through Saturday night.
Locations: Metro Vancouver - Northeast, Metro Vancouver - Southeast, Fraser Valley.
Threat: Daytime high temperatures reaching the low 30's combined with overnight lows in the upper teens are expected.
Timeframe: Today through Saturday night.
Remarks: A ridge of high pressure will lead to rising temperatures today through Saturday night. Relatively cooler temperatures are in store for the south coast beginning on Sunday.
Extreme heat affects everyone.
The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.
Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.
