Record-setting system lashes B.C. with damaging winds, rain, dangerous surf

Strong winds to continue today.
Locations: North Vancouver Island, Inland Vancouver Island.
Time span: Today.
Remarks: An intense fall storm will continue to bring strong winds to parts of Vancouver Island. The storm is expected to weaken through the day as it crosses the island and eventually the mainland coast early this evening.
Strong southeasterly winds of 60 km/h gusting to 80 will continue along the coastal areas of northern Vancouver Island. The winds will gradually ease through the day.
Strong east winds of 40 km/h gusting to 60 through east-west oriented valleys of inland Vancouver Island will switch to southwest winds of 50 km/h gusting to 60 later in the afternoon and this evening.
Winds over southeastern Vancouver Island will be strongest near the immediate coast today with southeasterly winds up to 60 km/h.
Although the system will move inland by early this evening, conditions will likely remain gusty tonight.
