Heat wave today through Saturday night.
Locations: Metro Vancouver - Central, Metro Vancouver - North Shore, Metro Vancouver - Southwest, Howe Sound.
Threat: Daytime high temperatures near 30 degrees Celsius combined with overnight lows in the upper teens.
Timeframe: Today through Saturday night.
Remarks: A ridge of high pressure will lead to elevated temperatures today through Saturday night. Daytime highs near 30 degrees Celsius combined with overnight lows in the upper teens are forecast with slightly cooler daytime temperatures expected near the water.
Cooler temperatures are in store for the south coast beginning on Sunday.
Extreme heat affects everyone.
The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.
Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.
