Extreme Cold WarningIssued at 10:10 Saturday 10 December 2016
A period of very cold wind chills is expected.
A ridge of arctic high pressure is giving mainly clear skies and very cold temperatures to portions of the Prairies this morning. Temperatures near minus 30 are combining with winds of 10 to 15 km/h to produce extreme wind chills of minus 40 or colder. The temperatures will moderate slightly today allowing wind chills to climb into the minus 30's but wind chills will once again approach or exceed minus 40 tonight and into Sunday morning as the ridge persists over the region.
Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.
