A very dry air mass over the area and breezy conditions willcombine with dead and dry fuels such as grass, leaves, and twigsto create the potential for uncontrolled fire spread acrossmuch of central and northern Maine today. Relative humidities thisafternoon will decrease to low levels from the upper 20s acrossparts of the north to the 40s Downeast. At the same time, windsbetween 15 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph across the north and 10to 15 mph with gusts to 25 mph Downeast will continue to dry fuelsand increase fire spread potential. Wind gusts are expected todiminish later this evening with increasing relative humidityvalues.Extra caution should be taken to prevent wildfires. Alwaysconsult with fire officials before engaging in any openburning activities and comply with all applicable laws andregulations. Never leave an open fire unattended and alwaysextinguish campfires completely before leaving.
