Snow Squall WarningIssued at 21:11 Saturday 25 February 2017
A band of lake effect snow is affecting northern portions of the Bruce peninsula at 9PM EST. This band is expected to affect areas southeast of Georgian Bay as well later this evening.
Localized snowfall accumulations of up to 15 cm are likely by Sunday morning. In addition, gusty northwest winds will create blowing snow reducing visibility at times to near zero.
The worst of the activity is expected to remain north of the city of Barrie.
Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.
Snow squall warnings are issued when bands of snow form that produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities.
