Issued at 04:32 Wednesday 24 May 2017

Rain and strong winds will affect portions of Saskatchewan starting on Wednesday and continuing into Friday.

A low pressure system will intensify and move from Alberta to Saskatchewan this morning. This weather system will bring an area of rain and thunderstorms to parts of western Saskatchewan over the next couple of days. The heaviest rains are expected to be in the Meadow Lake, Ile a la Crosse towards southern portions of the Cree Lake region where a total of 30 to 50 mm of rain is likely by the end of Thursday. Local thunderstorms could potentially potentially give an excess of 75 mm over this two day period.

Strong northwesterly winds will develop in the wake of this system on Thursday. Areas towards the Alberta border may see winds with gust of 80 km/h or higher.
