Rainfall WarningIssued at 17:38 Thursday 29 September 2016
Rain, at times heavy, is expected.
Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms will continue to affect Essex County tonight and into Friday. Although there has been a lull in the activity this afternoon, latest guidance is indicating that additional heavy rainfall may affect the region again tonight.
At 2 PM EDT, Windsor Airport had reported 78 mm of rain within the previous 24 hours. Radar indicated that even higher amounts had fallen east of the city. Unofficial reports from the Tecumseh area indicated 150 mm or greater, and a report of roughly 115 mm of rain had been received from the Belle River area near noon.
Areas farther southwest such as Harrow and Amherstburg have received significantly less precipitation so far.
Additional rainfall amounts will be highly variable, but are expected to be in the 40 to 70 mm range across the county.
The rain is being produced by a slow moving low pressure system over the Ohio Valley.
Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.
