Freezing Rain Warning

Issued at 21:01 Monday 22 January 2018

Significant freezing rain continues tonight.

Several centimetres of snow and ice pellets will fall across the region then change over to freezing rain later tonight.

The freezing rain may be briefly heavy at times, resulting in significant icing on untreated surfaces in some areas. Roads will likely become slippery due to snow or an ice layer due to freezing rain.

As a warm front approaches from the south, the freezing rain will slowly change over to rain early Tuesday morning as temperatures slowly inch above the zero degree mark.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break. Utility outages may occur.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.
