Special Weather StatementIssued at 04:37 Friday 21 October 2016
A heavy rainfall event is expected over parts of the Maritimes. However there is still some degree of uncertainty with respect to the location of heaviest rain. The highest rainfall rates will likely occur overnight tonight into Saturday. Current guidance is suggesting general amounts up to 40 mm over northern regions of mainland Nova Scotia, but southern and eastern sections could get as much as 80 mm. As is the case with most heavy rainfall situations, the total amount of rain is not necessarily the problem, but rather the rate at which the rain falls.
Environment Canada will continue to monitor the development of this system and recommends that anyone with weather sensitive activities or travels continue to monitor forecasts and the issuance of any future warnings. Warnings will likely be required early Friday.
Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to weatherASPC@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports to #NSStorm.
