Freezing Rain WarningIssued at 04:15 Tuesday 24 January 2017
Ice build-up due to freezing rain is expected or occurring.
An area of freezing rain is forecast to develop over southern Nova Scotia this morning and spread to across the remainder of the province during the day. Freezing rain will change to rain as temperatures rise above zero, first in the southwest this afternoon, then in northern regions this evening, and in Cape Breton on Wednesday. Strong easterly winds will also develop across the province today with gusts up to 80 km/h forecast along the Atlantic Coast.
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break. Utility outages may occur.
Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.
