Freezing Rain Warning

Issued at 10:41 Tuesday 20 February 2018

Freezing rain is expected or occurring.

An extended period of freezing rain will impact northern portions of Nova Scotia tonight and Wednesday morning.

A trough of low pressure approaching from the southwest is giving periods of rain over much of the province. Rain will change to freezing rain over northern mainland Nova Scotia this evening as temperatures fall to below zero. Freezing rain is expected to change to rain showers by Wednesday morning as temperatures rise.

For Cape Breton, patchy flurries and freezing drizzle tonight will change to freezing rain early Wednesday morning and will end near noon on Wednesday.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.
