Wind Warning

Issued at 16:01 Monday 29 August 2016

Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.

Unusually strong winds for August are expected tonight and Tuesday.

Northerly winds gusting to 100 to 120 km/h will affect most exposed coastal areas of Newfoundland tonight into Tuesday, beginning overnight tonight in the north and west and spreading eastward on Tuesday. Winds are expected to diminish by Tuesday night.

###

Gusty winds can damage soft shelters, tents and awnings at outdoor events. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to weatherNLWO@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports to #NLwx.
