Special Weather Statement

Issued at 15:42 Sunday 21 January 2018

A mixed bag of precipitation expected Tuesday night into Wednesday.

A low pressure system approaching from the Great Lakes region is forecast to track northeastward along the St. Lawrence River Tuesday night and then move into southeastern Labrador late Wednesday.

Snow will begin over southwestern Newfoundland Tuesday evening and spread northeastward during the night. For most areas of the island the snow will likely transition through ice pellets and freezing rain to rain by Wednesday.

At this time the highest snowfall accumulations are expected over the Great Northern Peninsula and the highest rainfall accumulations along the south coast. Further details on the potential impacts of this system will become available early in the week.
