Winter Storm WarningIssued at 22:42 Tuesday 23 January 2018
Hazardous winter conditions are expected.
Snow has started in the west and will spread north and east throughout the night, then continue into Wednesday. Snowfall amounts of 20 to 35 cm of snow can be expected as a low pressure system approaching from the Great Lakes tracks over southeastern Labrador on Wednesday evening. As the low approaches winds will increase to strong easterly with gusts between 60 and 80 km/h on Wednesday, giving widespread areas of reduced visibility in blowing snow.
Over southeastern Labrador, the snow will change over to rain Wednesday afternoon. Conditions will improve Wednesday evening as the precipitation and winds begin to ease.
Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations.
Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.
