Special Weather Statement

Issued at 06:00 Tuesday 25 April 2017

Icy weather later this week.

Meteorologists are monitoring a scenario that may result in an extended period of freezing precipitation.

Timing: Freezing rain appears likely to begin along the northeast coast of the Island on Thursday morning, before spreading into the interior Thursday afternoon. The freezing rain is forecast to continue through Thursday night, and then taper to showers or drizzle early Friday. Areas of freezing drizzle may persist later into Friday, however, along parts of the coast where temperatures will be slower to rise.

Impacts: Ice build-up from freezing precipitation may lead to slippery roads and walkways. Utility outages can occur when ice accretion occurs on overhead power lines.
