Blizzard Warning

Issued at 10:59 Saturday 21 January 2017

Blizzard conditions will continue today with snow and blowing snow accompanied by winds gusting between 80 and 100 km/h.

Total snowfall accumulations of 20 to 30 cm are forecast over parts of the northeastern Avalon Peninsula. Elsewhere snowfall amounts will range between 5 and 10 cm.

Snow is expected to taper off in the southwestern Avalon peninsula this afternoon and in the evening elsewhere.

Travel is expected to continue to be extremely hazardous due to the localized heavy snowfall and poor visibility. The strong winds may lead to power outages.

###

Road closures are possible.

Blizzard warnings are issued when widespread reduced visibilities of 400 metres or less are expected for at least 4 hours.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ec.weathernlwo.ec@canada.ca or tweet reports to #NLwx.
