Blowing Snow Advisory

Issued at 05:07 Thursday 23 March 2017

Snow will taper off over the Great Northern Peninsula throughout the day and over northeastern Newfoundland tonight. Total snowfall accumulations of 10 to 20 cm are expected by Friday morning.

Strong northerly winds will develop this morning over the Great Northern Peninsula and spread southeastward throughout the day. Wind gusts are expected between 70 and 90 km/h with the possibility of some exposed areas exceeding those values. The fresh snowfall and strong winds will combine to reduce visibilities to near zero at times in blowing snow today and tonight, especially along exposed areas of the coast.

###

Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations.

Blowing snow advisories are issued when winds are expected to create blowing snow giving poor visibility to 800 metres or less for at least 3 hours.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ec.weathernlwo.ec@canada.ca or tweet reports using #NLwx.
