Mixed weather on the way for tonight through Friday night.
A low pressure system approaching from the southwest will cross southeastern Newfoundland on Friday night. Snow and rain will spread northward across the Island ahead of this system tonight and continue on Friday.
Precipitation is expected to fall mainly as snow in western and central Newfoundland, with accumulations of 10 to 15 cm expected for most areas by Saturday morning.
The remainder of the Island will likely see a brief period of snow changing to or mixing with rain, with a risk of freezing rain. Some areas of the Northeast Coast may see a prolonged period of freezing rain on Friday where temperatures hover near zero.
Warnings are not currently expected for the Island with this system, but a slight change in track or intensity could affect the location, type, and amount of precipitation. Meteorologists at Environment Canada will continue to monitor its development and provide updates as further information becomes available.
