Special Weather StatementIssued at 23:02 Monday 21 May 2018
Wintry mix of weather on Wednesday night and Thursday.
A low pressure system is forecast to develop along the American Seaboard and will intensify as it tracks east of the Avalon Peninsula Wednesday night. The low will then continue out to sea on Thursday.
At this time, current guidance indicates that over southern Newfoundland, as well as the Avalon Peninsula, this system will bring rain, heavy at times, and strong northerly winds on Wednesday night. For central regions of the Island, as well as the Northeast and East Coasts, there is the potential for significant snowfall accompanied by strong northerly winds. This is expected to occur overnight Wednesday night and Thursday morning. Conditions are forecast to improve throughout the day on Thursday.
There is uncertainty with respect to the depth and track of this system and the public is advised to monitor future forecasts as watches and warnings may be required.
