Severe Thunderstorm Watch

Issued at 22:39 Sunday 28 August 2016

Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, damaging hail and heavy rain.

A cold front over western Manitoba is pushing eastward this evening and will sweep across the remainder of southern Manitoba tonight. A line of thunderstorms has developed ahead of this cold front, some of which have been severe. The threat of severe storms should move out of southern Manitoba overnight.

###

Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to storm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports to #MBStorm.
