Very strong wind gusts that may cause damage are expected or occurring.
A very intense low pressure system is tracking towards northern Manitoba tonight. This system will bring widespread severe westerly winds with gusts of 90 to 110 km/h into southern and central Manitoba beginning overnight. The severe winds will reach the Red River Valley, Interlake, and points eastward by Wednesday morning. In addition, wind prone areas in the lee of the Duck and Riding Mountains as well the extreme southwest corner of the province could see brief gusts as high as 130 km/h.
The winds will begin to abate Wednesday morning in western Manitoba and later Wednesday afternoon in the east as the low moves into Ontario.
Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.
Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.
