Rainfall Warning

Summary

Rain, at times heavy, is expected.

An intense frontal system is rapidly approaching the BC north coast. This storm is expected to bring very heavy rainfall to north coast inland regions starting Monday morning.

Storm totals of 60 to 80 mm are expected for Kitimat, Terrace and Stewart. The heaviest rain should begin to ease off overnight Monday, however, another strong frontal system is expected to come onshore Tuesday morning, bringing more heavy rain.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.

Summary

Heavy rainfall is expected over a two day period beginning Monday morning through early Wednesday morning as an intense Pacific frontal system remains more or less stalled over the central and northern portions of the BC coast.

Storm totals ranging between 100 and 200 mm are likely along the coast between Bella Bella on the Central Coast and Prince Rupert. Inland areas will generally receive close to 100 mm except Kitimat may get total rainfall amounts of near 200 mm.
