Severe Thunderstorm WatchIssued at 15:32 Saturday 30 July 2016
Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.
An area of severe thunderstorms is expected to develop over southern Alberta this evening. These main threats from these storms will be gusty winds, heavy rainfall, and large hail. However the environment is also unstable enough that a tornadoes may also develop from a severe thunderstorm cell.
Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes.
Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
