Special Weather StatementIssued at 05:15 Thursday 24 May 2018
The first heat event of the season is expected today.
Mostly sunny skies are expected through the day today along with a warm airmass. Maximum temperatures could reach near 31 degrees this afternoon as a result. Minimum temperature values of 16 degrees or less are then expected overnight which falls short of heat warning criteria. Relief from the heat will continue Friday with cooler temperatures along with scattered showers and thunderstorms.
The duration of this heat event does not reach heat warning criteria; however, these conditions pose a health risk when you are not used to the heat.
Everyone is at risk from heat, especially older adults; infants and young children; and people with chronic illnesses.
You are advised to 1) drink plenty of cool liquids before feeling thirsty; and 2) keep cool by dressing for the weather.
