Freezing Rain Warning

Issued at 04:49 Tuesday 20 February 2018

Freezing rain is expected or occurring.

An extended period of freezing rain will impact northern portions of Nova Scotia tonight and to Cape Breton Island Wednesday morning.

A trough of low pressure approaching from the southwest is giving periods of rain over much of the province. Rain will change to freezing rain over northern Nova Scotia this evening as temperatures fall to below zero. Freezing rain is expected to change to rain showers by Wednesday morning as temperatures rise.

For Cape Breton, on Wednesday night patchy flurries and freezing drizzle will change to freezing rain early Wednesday morning and will end throughout by noon.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.
