Special Weather Statement

Issued at 22:31 Sunday 21 January 2018

Wintry weather is in store for this week.

A low pressure system approaching from the Great Lakes region is forecast to track northeastward along the St. Lawrence River Tuesday night and then move into southeastern Labrador late Wednesday.

Snow will begin over western Labrador Tuesday evening and then spread to the rest of the Big Land by Wednesday morning. Southeastern Labrador will likely see the snow transition through ice pellets and freezing rain to rain on Wednesday.

Most areas of Labrador are expected to receive significant snowfall accumulations and strong winds with this system, which will reduce visibilities in blowing snow. This will especially be the case along the north coast, where the snow and high winds may persist through Thursday.
