1. How much does the ‘Severe Weather Alerts’ service cost?
Monthly, a C$3.00 fee per city is charged for the subscription service.
2. When do I start paying $3.00?
Your billing cycle begins on the day you subscribe, and the $3.00 charge will be reflected in your next mobile bill. For example, if you subscribe to ‘Severe Weather Alerts’ on October 12, the $3 charge will be reflected in your November mobile bill.
3. How many messages will I receive each day?
Severe Weather alerts will be sent ONLY when active weather is headed in your region. A severe weather warning may be sent out in multiple messages. However, alerts are irregular and unpredictable in frequency of occurrence. The Weather Network will issue a start of warning message, any warning updates issued by Environment Canada and an end of Warning message.
4. Will I receive the same Warning message if I subscribe to two cities that are located within the same region?
Yes, you will receive the same message. Environment Canada issues warnings by region ONLY and not by city.
5. Will I be charged an additional $3.00 if I add a second city?
Yes. A $3 monthly charge is assigned per city. So, avoid signing up for two cities within the same region.
6. Are there any areas that cannot receive weather alerts?
The service is available across Canada, to active subscribers of select carriers.
7. Can I subscribe to the service directly from my phone without having to log onto The Weather Network website?
Yes, you can. Simply text your city name followed by ‘warn’ and send the message to 69896 (MyTWN)
8. What type of Severe Weather alerts will I receive
The Weather Network will send an alert to your mobile device, based on Environment Canada’s weather warnings.
Severe Tornado Warnings, Severe Thunderstorm, Snow Storms, blizzards etc. are some examples of SMS alerts that will be delivered.
9. What other types of information can I receive?
Besides receiving the ‘in effect’ Warning issued by EC, you will also receive updates to the Warning and a final warning-ended message. In short, your monthly package includes Warnings, updates to Warnings and warning-ended messages.
10. How can I unsubscribe?
1) Reply STOP (City Name) to any Warning message received. Eg: STOP TORONTO
2) Sign into your Subscription account at The Weather Network website and click on the ‘delete’ button.
11. Can I change the city, I chose earlier, to another city?
Yes, you can. You will be required to cancel and resubscribe to a new city within your billing month. Your billing cycle will move to the new activation date.
