"Indian Pipe" plant

170 views Tom Megginson August 12, 2014 Frontenac Provincial Park, Sydenham, ON Date shot: August 7, 2014

Indian Pipe (Monotropa uniflora) is a parasitic forest plant that has no chlorophyll. Instead, it feeds on tree roots through a symbiotic underground fungus. It is also known as "Corpse Plant," due to its pallor, and "Ice Plant" because it seems to melt if handled. It is fairly rare.
