It had gone from a nice enough day to pretty dull and threatening rain so I was about to turn around and walk for home when I heard a familiar call not far away. At first I thought it was a Killdeer but as I got closer and heard it clearly there was no mistaking that a Merlin was checking out the wetland for a nice snack. There were lots of Red-winged Blackbirds, Grackles and their favourite snack some European Starlings all in plain view of this Merlin's lofty perch.
