When framing this picture Fort Amherst in St Johns NL I was suddenly struck with thoughts of the history behind the fort and I wondered of the thousands of tourists who have taken a picture of it if they actually new any of the forts history. The original fort built by the British in the 1770's has long since vanished and what you see here is what's left of the gun batteries built in WWII to protect St Johns Harbour from German Uboat Attacks. A lone Iceberg now guards the forts derelict remains.
