Most central Canadians would say they've had their share of shoveling this winter, and the statistics prove it. While January was not exceptional, December and February together were unusually snowy months in cities like Ottawa and Toronto.

In the weather world, March is considered one of the spring months along with April and May, but that's not to say March is a time of green grass and mild temperatures for Canadians east of the Rockies. In fact, many parts of Canada from the Prairies to the Atlantic Provinces can see some of their biggest snow and ice storms in March.

The recent March storms have pushed these two cities close to their all-time snowfall records. Many of this winter's storms have originated in the Southern U.S. and have resulted in numerous rounds of heavy snowfall from Windsor to Quebec City.

Looking ahead, the weather pattern does support the chance of a few more significant winter storms before winter finally breaks. The Weather Network's spring forecast is calling for more seasonal conditions to prevail by April.
