A system that developed in the Atlantic Ocean, close to the coast of New York state has moved towards Canada's Atlantic provinces. As a result, the forecast is calling for relatively heavy accumulations of rain.
“The system was sitting on the east coast and now it has picked up moisture,” says Elena Lappo, a meteorologist at The Weather Network. “It will be a relatively quick-moving system.”
Winds will also be a factor associated with the system. In parts of Newfoundland, gusts of up to 100 km/h can be expected on Saturday night and into Sunday.
The Maritimes, however, will clear up by Saturday night. And in Newfoundland, the precipitation will clear out by Sunday, but windy conditions will still persist.
By Monday, the system should clear up in Atlantic Canada.
