20 cm of snow fell in Vancouver yesterday and another 5 - 10 cm is possible for Christmas Day.
Holiday air travel was hampered in Southern BC by snow as flights were delayed or canceled in Vancouver and Victoria. Vancouver could see another 5 - 10 cm Christmas Day before temperatures begin to warm up.
Arctic outflow which has kept temperatures unseasonably cold for Southern BC over the past few weeks is beginning to weaken. A warm up is expected over the next few days. Significant amounts of snow are still on the ground in Vancouver and on Vancouver Island. A sudden mass melting of snow could result in flooding.
These snowy conditions in the back country have led the Canadian Avalanche Centre to issue an alert for the Southern BC and North Shore area. Back country skiers and hikers should use extreme caution.
Snowfall Warnings are in effect for parts of the Vancouver area and Eastern Vancouver Island. Arctic Outflow Warnings have receded to Northern BC. Wind Warnings are in effect for the Central Coast area.
