January 27, 2008 — More snow to come for the Wednesday drive home in Southern Ontario and Quebec. Atlantic Canada going to be hit hard overnight.

A storm that has plagued much of the Mid-Atlantic United States is now affecting Eastern Canada. The centre of this storm is coming up along the Appalachians and heading straight for the Maritimes.

Southern Ontario and Quebec
Expect to see up to 25cm of snow for some parts in Southern Ontario, especially places around the Golden Horseshoe where easterly winds are picking up moisture from Lake Ontario ahead of the storm. Cities farther east, such as Ottawa and Montreal, expect to see between 15 and 20cm of snow.

Atlantic Canada
The storm will be a messy and windy one for Atlantic Canadians as the Gulf stream affords more moisture to the storm. Snow is starting in the afternoon through the Maritimes. Up to 30cm of snow is expected in central New Brunswick.

Freezing rain will also work its way through the Maritimes starting this evening, first in Southern Nova Scotia, then through New Brunswick, and through PEI by Thursday Morning. Behind all the freezing rain, warmer air is coming in so a shot of rain in the forecast.

The rain will be brief because the whole region will get colder as a cold front sweeps through during the day Thursday.

Newfoundlanders will see snow starting Thursday and chances of freezing rain and rain through Thursday evening as warmer air filters in on the eastern part of the Island.

Watches and Warnings are already in place across Eastern Canada.
