An impending storm has officials on high alert.

Saskatchewan's Water Security Agency says there could be flooding if the predicted 50 to 80 mm of rain soaks southern parts of the province this weekend.

"At this time, the areas forecasted to receive the most amount of rainfall are those regions southeast of a line from Val Marie, Assiniboia, Regina and down to Estevan," said the agency in a flood advisory Friday.

"In these areas, rainfall amounts from 50 to 80 mm are possible between Friday night and Monday morning."

The agency says the good news is that the Rafferty and Alameda reservoirs have a large flood storage space available.

Residents are asked to be aware of the situation and pay attention to the weather forecast and prepare accordingly.

Relentless rain and flash floods in late June prompted more than 100 communities in Saskatchewan and Manitoba to declare a state of emergency

The Water Security Agency says many of those areas still have above-normal water levels and additional rainfall could lead to more localized flooding. Be sure to check back for updates and watch the Weather Network on TV as we continue to monitor the situation.
