Weakened Odile makes its way into the southern US


Saturday, September 20, 2014, 10:05 AM - After causing massive devastation in Mexico, a weakened Odile made its way into the southern part of the United States.

While it was among the strongest to hit the Mexican state of Baja California Sur, the remnants of the hurricane are also causing chaos across states like Texas, Arizona, New Mexico among others.

The deep tropical moisture was enough to leave the roads of places like Houston under water. Low-lying roads and those with poor drainage were left covered with more than 50 millimeters of rain.

Officials were out on the streets rescuing people whose vehicles were left stranded.

In Texas, the rising tide was strong enough to wash away a police vehicle that was carrying a senior deputy. Searchers used rescue dogs and helicopters before ultimately finding the officer dead in her patrol car.

A similar situation was occurring in New Mexico. During the last several days parts of New Mexico received more than 150 millimeters of rainfall.

In Mexico, the final flight carrying stranded Canadians made its way out of the country. The WestJet flight 4821 carryign about 45 Canadians from Los Cabos to Calgary.
