Watch: Cyclist wipes out after colliding with a kangaroo

Sunday, January 25, 2015, 11:18 AM - It seems you can't hide from Australia's unique fauna even if you're well within the boundaries of the nation's capital.

Around 0:20 into the YouTube video below is the moment cyclist Bronwyn Calver collides with a roo as it crosses her path on Canberra's Adelaide Avenue.

"I escaped relatively unscathed with no broken bones but a severely grazed and bruised elbow, grazed hip and 8 stitches in my knee," Calver wrote when she posted the video to YouTube last week.

Canberra isn't exactly the largest of Australia's cities (It's on the lower end of the top-ten list, with both Sydney and Melbourne both more than 10 times more populous), but this wasn't the middle of nowhere. The accident happened right near the country's Parliament, although there are very few buildings in the area.

Calver says several cars stopped to help her after the collision. As for the kangaroo, it didn't make it. It jumped over the railing to another part of the area, and was struck by a car and killed.

The former cricketer told the Sydney Morning Herald she keeps a GoPro on her car to record problems with motorists, rather than wildlife.
