Friday, May 1, 2015, 8:08 AM - The Gardiner Expressway is closed between Carlaw Avenue and Highway 427/QEW in Toronto for spring maintenance at 8 p.m. on Friday, reopening at 6 a.m. Sunday.

The GoodLife Fitness Toronto Marathon also takes place this weekend, with lane restrictions in effect.

Spring maintenance is an annual endeavour that involves a series of tasks.

Officials take the opportunity to resurface asphalt, inspect bridges, repair overhead signs, re-lamp streetlights and conduct surveys for future work.

Lake Shore Boulevard, the Queensway, Richmond Street, King Street, Queen Street and Evans Avenue can be used as alternative routes during the weekend closure, along with the TTC and GO Train.
