This day in history: Flood devastates Peace River, Alberta

Saturday, February 28, 2015, 6:03 PM - On February 28, 1992, an evacuation order was issued for many residents of Peace River, Alberta, northwest of Edmonton.
It started with a warm front that brought record warm temperatures to the area, immediately after a heavy snowfall.
As temperatures rose to 20 degrees above normal, the snow pack quickly melted into rivers and streams.

Ice jams caused the river to overflow its banks.
A state of emergency was declared in the town because of the resulting widespread flooding.
