10 worst roads in Atlantic Canada revealed. Recognize any?

Tuesday, May 5, 2015, 10:55 PM - Thousands of local residents and drivers voted and the results are in: Here are Atlantic Canada's Top 10 worst roads.

The online vote was organized by The Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) as part of the organization's fifth annual Worst Roads campaign targeted at finding and fixing the culprits.

Votes were collected from Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, and the final list helps officials to focus on the roads most need of repair.

"At this time of year, and after an especially difficult winter, there are a number of roads in need of repair in Atlantic Canada," Gary Howard, Vice President of Communications at CAA (Atlantic), said in a statement.

"As is our practice each year, we’ve reached out to government officials for each of the top ten roads, and welcome the opportunity to share information on planned repairs or upgrades."

Here's the 2015 list of the worst roads in Atlantic Canada, as voted by residents:

1. Gillis Point Road (Washabuck Centre, N.S.)

This isn't the first time Gillis Point Road has made the list. It came in at No. 1 in 2014 due to crumbling pavement.

2. Charters Settlement Road (Charters Settlement, N.B.)

Charters Settlement Road was resurfaced in the fall, but it still comes in second on this list. Some frustrated residents have taken to Twitter to air their grievances with government officials, citing "horrible' conditions." By March, residents were reporting as many as 40 potholes littering the street. Resident Ryan Rioux told The Weather Network via Twitter that officials did a poor job of sealing the roadway up last fall and haven't come back to fix it.

3. Marble Mountain Road (River Denys, N.S.):

Resident Yvonne Eggenberger told the Chronicle Herald this road is "really bad," adding “there are stretches where there is pavement but the pavement is so crumbly it’s almost going back to gravel. And the centre line, there are holes, you really have to miss them otherwise you’ll break your car.”

4. Newfoundland and Labrador 480 (Burgeo, N.L.):

Limited visibility during active weather is just one of the reasons this road has made the list.

5. New Brunswick 616 (Keswick Ridge, N.B.):

This road made the list last year as well, when it tied for last place. This is not a list you want to move up.

6. Highway 434 (Conche, N.L.):

Highway 434 is a repeat offender, making the list in 2012 as well.

7. Markland Road (Whitbourne, N.L.)

8. Main Street (Tobique First Nation, N.B.)

9. New Brunswick 105 (Mactaquac, N.B.)

10. Terradore Lane (Hammonds Plains, N.S.)
