The incredible storm photography of Beth Allan

Thursday, October 2, 2014, 9:02 PM - Beth Allan is one of those rare and fortunate people who get to pursue their passions day in and day out, month to month, all year long.

From September to June, Allan works as a high school counsellor in Chestermere, Alberta but once school is out, the Calgary resident hits the road capturing stunning photos of the storms she chases down.

"It's perfect. Everything works wonderfully because I get to pursue my passion working with students and young people. So I'm helping them out along life and then I get to talk to them about how I'm able to pursue my (other) passion as well," she says.

Allan has had plenty to share with her students this fall - including the honour of being named the Huffington Post Canada's photographer of the month.

“We sort of went long periods of time where an area didn’t get anything and then all of sudden you know like Airdrie got storm after storm after storm and it was a tough season to find tornadoes, which is always sort of what we would like to find but we found some and then we got some great structure and beautiful storms,” she says.

“I mean it was really nice to have people appreciate my work and to get my work out there and it was just, I mean I guess happy is the only way to describe it."

Check out some of the mesmerizing photos she snapped while storm chasing in southern and central Alberta this past summer:
