"Rainfall warnings were issued for downtown Toronto and north and east GTA Thursday evening for a system that brought flooding throughout the GTA and downtown affecting TTC services and flooding roads," says Weather Network meteorologist Kelly Sonnenburg. "Radars indicated 50-60 mm of rain falling in an hour over some portions."

Flooding at Toronto's Lawrence Station resulted in suspension of subway services on the Younge-University line. The station was able to reopen in time for the morning commute at 6 am on Friday.

Officials say several streets were also flooded as well as areas in and around Highways 400 and 404.

Toronto fire officials received calls about cars stuck in underpasses due to rising water levels as well.

Weather advisories were also in place on Thursday for possible funnel clouds throughout the region

"A couple were spotted in the North York area," adds Sonnenburg.

"Today southern Ontario will see isolated showers with the chance of seeing some sunny breaks," Sonnenburg says. "Sudbury and north could see some mixing overnight tonight into Saturday morning."

Temperatures are expected to remain above seasonal in southern Ontario Friday, but with winds shifting to more northerly, the temperatures will drop below seasonal for the weekend and into the beginning of next week.
