Wednesday, July 1, 2015, 4:16 PM - This creature looks like something out of a sci-fi movie.
The remains of an unidentified animal with fur and a beak washed up on the shore of Sakhalin Island, located along the far east of Russia.
The creature has dolphin-like features and is estimated to be twice the size of a human being.
Some experts claim the carcass belongs to a Ganges River dolphin from India due to its long body and narrow beak nose, according to The Siberian Times. However, the fur on its tail and the length of the creature has got the scientific community baffled.
"Judging by the appearance of the head, this is clearly some big dolphin. According to a characteristic of the skin, it is a rare species," Nickolay Kim, Deputy Head of the Forecasting department of the Sakhalin Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography told The Siberian Times. "I doubt that it lived in our waters. Most likely, the animal was brought by the warm current. Here often appear tropical and subtropical species. On cooling, they stay here and then die."
