Remember that pod of pilot whales we told you about that was stranded in the shallows off the Florida Everglades?

About forty of the friendly cetaceans were trapped, and all efforts by rescuers to free them proved fruitless ... until rescue teams arrived one morning last week to find them completely vanished.

A large pod was spotted several kilometres away in the Gulf of Mexico shortly afterward, and officials say that group was probably the missing pod.

They're struggling to explain why they all finally decided to choose life (11 of them had already perished), but no one is complaining.
